THE SIDELINE FIELD REPORT
Two for two in the conference game puts Sideline Monster at 6-4 for the playoffs and feeling pretty good heading into the big game. The Colts had no problem taking care of the New York Jets, but that was really no surprise. The big story of that game was the torn ligament suffered by DE Dwight Freeney and how he hasn't been able to practice before the Super Bowl. The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints put on one of the best games seen in recent years, well except for all the Minnesota fans that watched a turnover-fest by their team. Heart breaking for them, but don't take anything away from the Saints defense because they hit the ballcarriers hard and went for the strip whenever possible. Now that many turnovers was quite unexpected but the Saints have been an opportunistic defense the entire year capitalizing on mistakes. Now their defense isn't going to wall up and stop the other team's offense on 3 and outs everytime, the Saints bend but don't break on D.
UPON THE HORIZON
Well this is the end of the season, the big game, where both teams will be laying it on the line for the ultimate prize, the Super Bowl.
New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts - This is it. The big game. The goal at the beginning of summer workouts for each team in the NFL, ok well most teams in the NFL. The Colts come into this game running flawless on offense, but now with a serious question on defense. If DE Dwight Freeney is not able to play for long, because there is not a force in the world that will keep Freeney from taking the field to see how his ankle holds up. If he can't go long, then the Colts rush to get to Saints QB Drew Brees will be greatly hampered. And for the Colts this is a problem, because this will give Brees more time to locate WRs against the Colts defense that will not nearly be as great without the constant Freeney pressure on Brees. As for the Saints, they are on cloud 9 right now being in their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Their defense is coming off their best game turnover-wise and sheer guts this season. They made huge plays against a Vikings offense that looked really good, when they could hold onto the ball. As for the Saints offense, Drew Brees and Co. didn't seem to have a great game, but really will all of Minnesota's turnover the Saints always had a short field to work with. The Saints can't really expect to get that many turnovers against Colts QB Peyton Manning, who really hates to give the ball away.
